The coast
in morning light.

Nilsa booked only a couple of days before we met. We photographed on 20 June, when sunrise comes very early on the coast.

At first they struck me as serious and well prepared for the shoot. They had set off by car while it was still dark, but even at that hour the morning traffic had other plans. They reached Amalfi a little after sunrise. We still made some lovely photographs.

We began by the harbour, near the large car park, and followed the coast towards Atrani. It was a good morning on a route I know well. Afterwards, as always, I shared my Amalfi Coast guide with them, just as I do with everyone who comes for a photoshoot.

This morning is another reason I often talk about starting early. I am a perfectionist about photographs. In bright Amalfi sunshine, pictures feel hot and wonderfully summery, almost as though they were made on film. That is a lovely effect, too.

My own preference is for modern digital photography. I like the freedom to make thousands of frames, as I did during this shoot, and look for the best moments among them. For that, I want both enough time and the right light.

I always ask guests to meet as early as they can, ideally a couple of minutes before sunrise. Then we have time to begin calmly, walk through the places we have chosen and enjoy the morning light before the sun becomes really strong.
